Social media content calendar for Nepal: 2026 festivals

A social media content calendar for Nepal works best when it is built on the Bikram Sambat (BS) calendar and the national holidays that follow it, not only on Gregorian months. Mark the festival dates first, schedule posts ahead of each break, then fill the rest with evergreen clips. The next break to plan for is Tihar, which a law firm's summary of the Ministry of Home Affairs holiday list puts at 8 to 12 November 2026.

Why a standard template falls short

Free calendar templates are a good starting point. Smartsheet's free Excel and Google Sheets templates cover post ideas, dates, times, captions, visuals and performance tracking (Smartsheet). The problem is that they are built on Gregorian months. Nepal's official calendar is Bikram Sambat, which runs about 56 to 57 years ahead of the Gregorian calendar and is lunisolar, so festival dates do not fall on the same Gregorian day each year (Wikipedia). Nepal began 2083 BS in mid-April 2026 (The Himalayan Times).

Step 1: Map the festival dates for the year

Start with the holiday list for the BS year. A law firm's summary of the Ministry of Home Affairs list for 2083 BS (April 2026 to April 2027) gives these 2026 dates (Pradhan Law):

  • Dashain: a seven-day national holiday, 17 to 23 October 2026.
  • Tihar: a five-day national holiday, 8 to 12 November 2026.
  • Chhath: a national holiday on 15 November 2026.

I could not open the official notice from this session, so treat these as secondary. The edges of Tihar also differ between sources. OrbitRemit starts Tihar on 7 November with Kaag Tihar, and a Danish consulate's Nepal list gives 9 to 12 November (holiday list PDF). Bhai Tika falls on 11 November in most listings, including the Swiss embassy's list. Check the official notice before you lock in a schedule.

Date (2026) Event What it means for the calendar
17 to 23 Oct Dashain national holiday Already over. Good for a look-back post.
8 to 12 Nov Tihar, Bhai Tika on 11 Nov Schedule posts before 8 Nov.
15 Nov Chhath A one-day break. Plan a single post.
Mid-April 2027 Start of 2084 BS (expected) Confirm the new BS list. Do not reuse 2026 dates.

Step 2: Schedule before the break, not during it

Plan the posts for each holiday window ahead of time. Content recycling helps here. GoDaddy's small-business guide notes that recycling content can stop you from inventing new topics on the fly (GoDaddy). For Tihar, pick two or three evergreen Reels or Shorts you already have, schedule them for the break, and use the time off to shoot and edit the next batch.

Step 3: Decide the language of each post

Many Nepali businesses mix Nepali and English. Decide the caption language per post rather than per month. Choose from Nepali script, Roman Nepali, English or both. Our Nepali keyword research post explains why people search with both scripts, and the Nepali font post covers why Nepali text sometimes fails to display on a website.

Auto-generated captions on Reels, Shorts and TikTok can stumble on mixed-language speech. In our caption guide we flagged this as our own observation rather than something a source measured. Proofread those lines before you post.

Step 4: Add the columns Nepal needs

Keep the usual columns and add a few that handle the calendar:

Column Why it helps
Date (AD) Platform scheduling and sorting use Gregorian dates.
Date (BS) Festival and holiday planning. Convert it with a current BS calendar, not by guessing.
Holiday or festival Flags posts that should go before or after a break.
Caption language Nepali script, Roman Nepali, English or both.
Format Reel, Short or TikTok, so you can see the mix.
Status Script, edit, scheduled or posted.

Step 5: Review each month

Use the performance columns to compare the weeks before and after each holiday. Which format held up during the break? Which caption language got more replies? A small table like this is a practical check, but the calendar itself will not give you a benchmark, so compare against your own past months rather than a published average.

Where Saga fits
